Maybe That's The Way It's Supposed to Be...
Eight-ish years ago, I was attempting to read The Autobiography of a Yogi - again. Typically, I fly through books. I am a fast reader - I always scored highest on reading comprehension back in my standardized testing days.
The Autobiography of a Yogi was different, though.
Often, I was only able to read a few pages at a time. And when I would return to the book, most of the time, I needed to re-read the previous paragraphs to reorient myself.
One afternoon, I went to get a massage from one of my fellow yoga teachers - who was also a massage therapist. As I was leaving her apartment, her partner and I started casually chatting and we stumbled onto the topic of the Self Realization Fellowship. I mentioned to him that I was trying to read The Autobiography of a Yogi (again) and I was almost ready to give up - again.
Her partner said something that massively changed me. Paraphrasing, I told him, “I typically breeze through books and this book is taking me forever to read.”
And he replied, “maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
Maybe that IS the way it’s supposed to be.
