Beyond Words
A contemplative essay inviting you to take a look beyond the veil. This post includes an essay voiceover and an 11 minute guided meditation for Paid Subscribers.
Last week, I stood in front of a sink full of dishes with zero motivation. I remembered that I had a podcast that I have been wanting to start for weeks. I found my headphones, queued up the first episode, and I got to washing.
My entire perspective changed in the time that it took me to clear the sink.
I was listening to Telepathy Tapes - a podcast series that “[invites] viewers to step into a reality where the impossible is not only possible but happening everyday.”
The creator, Ky Dickens, investigates the world of non-speakers with autism who are able to telepathically read minds and communicate without words. The series explores themes of consciousness, unconventional understanding, and truths that exist outside of our ordinary frameworks.
I had ended up at the sink that morning because I was doubting myself and my offerings… I decided that my time would be better spent washing dishes than staring at my computer, frozen with doubt.
Last August, I felt called - called is literally the word - to transform Deeper Than Shallow into a full-fledged business.
Deeper Than Shallow began as this - a Substack - and over the years, it has evolved into a multidimensional container that offers contemplative essays, herbal tea blends infused with spiritual intentions, and practices designed to elevate your connection to higher states of consciousness.
It’s been a journey and a dance - one step forward, five steps back.
I have spent many hours doubting - who am I to offer spiritual guidance?
More to come on that self-flagellation later on in this essay… For now, I want to stay with the threads of changing my thoughtscape while listening to a podcast as I washed dishes.
Telepathy Tapes tells the stories of non-speakers with autism who communicate without words - communication beyond tangible language.
Everyday, I experience communication beyond words: when I sit in meditation with my tea. when I go on walks and watch the trees sway in the wind. when I lay my hands on my body and receive the energy that flows through my palms from a source that is beyond words.
I can’t articulate the relationship I have with plants and prayers and energy. Yet, it’s real.
I’ll most likely never understand it. And, it’s real.
On Episode 2 of Telepathy Tapes, Ky shared the following Nikola Tesla quote:
“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”
The heartbeat of every single one of my offerings is a non-physical phenomena. It’s beyond words.
And while the mystery of it all can feel impossible to contain and share, I finished my sink full of dishes and returned to my computer with an attitude of “let’s do this…”.
You may be wondering what it is that I am “doing” and truly, I wonder the same thing all of the time.
When I formed Deeper Than Shallow as an LLC at the end of the Summer, I did so with the intention of offering my spiritually infused tea blends and with an intention of offering hormonal support for women.
In hindsight, my desire to offer hormonal support was pure and I have realized that I felt called to say that I was offering hormonal guidance in an effort to make Deeper Than Shallow more digestible to those who are not steeped in metaphysical spirituality.
Before I move on, it’s important to note: my hormonal health has been a cornerstone of my recent spiritual growth... While I know that it is possible to be spiritually connected when I am physically unwell - from experience, I know that when I am physically well, my spiritual connection heightens - the channel is clearer.
I have spent the last year studying women’s hormonal health from a scientific perspective and the more I learn the more I realize that a regulated nervous system is the mainspring of hormonal health. Cortisol destroys healthy hormones. Period.
There are countless experts that offer amazing resources for balancing your hormones through nutrition and movement. Yet, I have learned - through research and personal experience - that there is no diet or exercise that will save you from constant stress.
And, I’m going to tie this all together now:
Over the weekend, I went to an amazing musical performance paired with visuals on a big screen at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. The entire experience was so moving and I sat there completely blown away with the recognition of how powerful creational art is for our collective consciousness and personal well-being.
My internal landscape, my frequency, my tone would shift as the music and visuals changed.
At times, the energy created by the visions and the sounds felt too intense and in those moments, I had an opportunity to find my own tone - within: the place in me that is always quiet and still.
Recently, “reality” has felt chaotic and loud. I have been stressed. The current administration stresses me out in a big, big way.
I feel the stress in my belly, in my womb, in my heart, in my throat. It feels like a constriction. Sometimes, it feels hard to breathe.
And then I sit with my tea or at a masterfully orchestrated immersive art experience and I am reminded of life beyond the matrix.
And, that reminder inspires me to create the tone and frequency that I want to experience within myself.
Listening to Telepathy Tapes inspired me. Consciousness expands so far beyond our perceived limitations. I feel honored to create experiences that help people explore consciousness.
Whether it’s through writing or guided meditations or spiritually infused tea or my Rest class - each of my offerings is created with the intention of providing a doorway to spiritual exploration and devotion. Welcome.
As I previously mentioned, I doubt: who am I to show up in this role? Someone offering spiritual solutions to the weight of our modern existence. Someone who is saying: hey - come take a look beyond the veil.
And truthfully, now more than ever, we all need to show up and offer spiritual solutions. Our World needs non-physical phenomena - the unseen energy that is created through meaningful, heartfelt acts… Such as:
A meal made with passion and love. Baked goods. Dance. Visual arts. Photography. Words. Gardening. Something that makes your cells feel alive. Service work. Pleasure. Intentional living. Music. Artistry of all kinds.
I feel like the biggest fucking kook for these next sentences - but I’m going to say them anyways:
Right now, there are a lot of people in positions of enormous Earthly power that are emitting super low vibrations.
So, the World deeply needs people with a spark - people who feel called to change the frequency and tone of our collective consciousness with heartfelt acts that create ripples of higher vibrations.
It sounds kooky but it’s so true. I beg you, please find your own expressions of pleasure activism and community care.
On February 17, it will be 18 years since I have taken a drink of alcohol. It will be 18 years since I have abused a hard or prescription drug.
I went to my first N.A. meeting when I was just shy of 16 years old through my court ordered outpatient rehab program.
I have consciously prayed and made contact with a God of my understanding every single day since I desperately returned to A.A on February 17, 2007.
And while I lovingly no longer attend A.A. meetings, the third step is the foundation of my existence:
Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood [them].
My relationship, with the God of my understanding, is the antidote to all of my emotional (and often physical) suffering. I change my internal frequency through communing with God.
And that relationship and communion is a non-physical phenomena that is beyond words.
And I need to say this: the relationship I have with the God of my understanding has been complicated.
It has taken me years to untangle from my monotheistic, Christian background - I had to release my conceptions of God as a judger and punisher.
I have used prayer, yoga, meditation, journaling, time in nature, and long walks to unravel my limiting spiritual beliefs. It has taken over a decade for me to fully feel the love of God in my heart and Soul.
And as of late, working with plants has opened a new doorway that has led to a deeper spiritual connection with origins in Oneness - the divine interconnection present within all things.
And it’s all beyond words.
I wish I had answers to offer, alas I am deep in the mystery myself… So, I will leave you with these questions:
Are you creating the frequency or are you being influenced by the tones around you?
What offerings are you sharing to vibrationally shift our collective consciousness?
Which rituals help you feel more connected to God/Divine/Oneness? Are you regularly practicing them?
Below, I invite Paid Subscribers to Interconnection: an 11 minute Guided Tea Meditation that pairs with any tea. Truly, thank you for your support.
I will have Guided Tea Meditations available to purchase on the forthcoming bedeeperthanshallow.com soon. Stay tuned ❤️
With love,
Julia
